OUR ADULT CLASSES

See below for our Kids/Youth Programming

SILKSAerial Silks consist of two long pieces of fabric that can be climbed, wrapped, knotted, and used to create stunning shapes, dramatic drops, and challenging sequences. 

​

LYRA:  Aerial Lyra, also known as aerial hoop, is a circular metal apparatus that offers a stable structure for dynamic poses, spins, and flowing transitions.

​

HAMMOCK: Aerial hammock is a loop of fabric rigged from a single point, providing a supportive base, which can feel more accessible than other aerial apparatuses while still offering opportunities for strength, flexibility, and creativity.

​

STRAPS: Aerial straps are a challenging apparatus that consists of two cloth hand loops, often used to build strength and for intense aerial conditioning.

​

AERIAL CONDITIONING: An open level aerial fitness class that helps students build strength, using multiple aerial apparatuses.

​

OPEN STUDIO: Join us for open practice time at Levitate! Shared points and apparatuses will be offer for these 2-hour sessions.  Must have prior approval from the studio to participate.​

FOR ALL OF OUR CLASSES AT LEVITATE STUDIOS:

  1.  If you suffer from any underlying conditions or bodily injury, you must have clearance from your healthcare professional before attending.

  2.  Instructor/studio pre-approval is REQUIRED before attending ANY class higher than our 101/newbie classes, or aerial conditioning.  You must meet the below listed prerequisites in order to sign up for a Level 1-3 class.

  3.  If you sign up for a class inappropriate for your aerial skill level, you will be removed from the class. If this happens outside of the cancellation window, your class may be forfeited.

SILKS/

HAMMOCK 101-

Newbie

New/newish to Silks and Hammock? Look no further! Our 101/Newbie classes welcome newcomers, even without any prior movement or fitness background. In Silks/Hammock 101, you’ll learn the skills needed to climb up a silk, invert in a hammock, practice foot and wrist locks, and so much more!

 

Prerequisites:

None! â€‹â€‹

*If you take other aerial apparatuses but are new to Silks and/or Hammock, you must still start your silks and hammock journey with Silks/Hammock 101.

SILKS 1 - Experienced Beginner

So you’ve mastered the basics of aerial silks? You’re ready to move to Silks 1 (pending instructor approval). In Silks 1, you’ll learn the skills needed to practice same side and opposite side climbs, catcher's wrap, cross-back straddle, hip key, s-wraps and so much more.

 

Prerequisites

  • Unassisted Basic and French/Russian climbs to the top of a silk on both sides

  • Unassisted invert to knee hook from the ground

  • Memorized wrist and foot locks

  • Knowledge of aerial dance locks and hip keys

  • Must be able to hold the top of a pull up position for 3 seconds, and do 1 unassisted push up or 5 assisted push ups.

SILKS 2 - Intermediate

You’ve made it to Silks 2? Fantastic! You’ll continue to expand upon your knowledge by learning the skills needed to windmill, sequence material together, work on stamina, and add more complex skills, spins, and drops into your silks vocabulary. 

 

Prerequisites:

  • Straddle invert to same and opposite side climbs in the air

  • Clean aerial dance locks

  • Ability to invert in a cross-back straddle 

  • Hip key in the air 

  • Double ankle hang

  • At least 1 entrance to s-wrap memorized on both sides

  • Must be able to 1 unassisted pull up

SILKS 3 - Advanced

Wow, you’re really serious about silks! This is our highest level of aerial silks offered, catered towards serious students, pre-professional artists and professional aerialists.  

 

Prerequisites:

  • Windmill on both sides with multiple rotations

  • Double star drop on both sides

  • Straight arm invert in the air

  • Must have the stamina to stay in the air for a minimum of 3 minutes.

LYRA 101-

Newbie

New/newish to lyra? Look no further!  Our 101/Newbie classes welcome newcomers, even without any prior movement or fitness background.  In Lyra 101, you’ll learn the skills needed to invert into a lyra, sequence simple poses and tricks together, spin, and so much more!

 

Prerequisites:

None! â€‹â€‹

*If you take other aerial apparatuses but are new to Lyra, you must still start your lyra journey with Lyra 101.

LYRA 1 - Experienced Beginner

So you’ve mastered the basics of aerial lyra? You’re ready to move to Lyra 1 (pending instructor approval)! In Lyra 1, you’ll learn the skills needed to trapeze and pull over mount on the bottom and top bars, sequence more lengthy skills together, hip hang, elbow hang, balance and so much more.

 

Prerequisites

  • Clean and unassisted straddle and side straddle mounts on the bottom bar

  • Knowledge of trapeze mount on the bottom bar

  • Knowledge of gazelle/layback split and mermaids

  • Must be able to hold the top of a pull up position for 3 seconds and do 1 unassisted push up, or 5 assisted push ups.

LYRA 2 - Intermediate

You’ve made it to Lyra 2? Fantastic! You’ll continue to expand upon your lyra vocabulary by learning skills like hip hold split, reverse moon, figure 4 layback on the top bar, and spanset work. In this level we’ll work on conditioning exercises like skin-the-cats, meathooks, and straight arm inversions.


​Prerequisites:

  • Trapeze and pullover mounts on the top bar

  • Hold single hip and elbow hangs on both sides for 5 seconds each

  •  Be able to front and back balance for at least 5 seconds each  

  • Must have knowledge of dragonfly/amazon, straddle back on the bottom bar, russian rolls and forward/cradle rolls.

  • Must be able to 1 unassisted pull up

LYRA 3 - Advanced

Wow, you’re really serious about lyra! This is our highest level of aerial lyra offered, catered towards serious students, pre-professional artists and professional aerialists.  

 

Prerequisites:

  • Must be able to do 5 skin-the-cats in a row

  • Clean meathooks on each side and be working towards single arm meathooks

  • 3 bent arm invert 3 times in a row

  • 1 clean straight arm inversion 

  • Must have the stamina to stay on a hoop for a minimum of 3 minutes.

HAMMOCK 1

EXPERIENCED BEGINNER

So you’ve mastered the basics of hammock? You’re ready to move to Hammock 1 (pending instructor approval). In Hammock 1, you’ll learn the skills needed to practice pull over entrance, front and back balance, invert standing on the base of the hammock, and work on longer sequences and simple drops.

 

Prerequisites

  • Unassisted Basic and French/Russian climbs to the top of a silk on both sides

  • Unassisted invert to knee hook from the ground in the hammock

  • Memorized wrist and foot locks

  • Must be able to do a single thigh roll up on both sides

  • Must be able to hold the top of a pull up position for 3 seconds, and do 1 unassisted push up or 5 assisted push ups.

HAMMOCK 2/3 Intermediate/

Advanced

You’ve made it to Hammock 2/3? Fantastic! You’ll continue to expand upon your hammock vocabulary by learning skills like corset, stacked hip keys, complicated roll ups and sequences, and complex drops. In this level we’ll work on conditioning exercises like skin-the-cats, meathooks, and straight arm inversions.


​Prerequisites:

  • Unassisted and clean pullover entrance to sit

  • Must be able to invert to crochet standing on the base of a hammock

  • Must have knowledge of at least one entrance to cross-backstraddle

  • Must be able to hip key on both sides

  • Must be able to 1 unassisted pull up

 

STRAPS & CONDITIONING

STRAPS-

LEVEL 1 & UP

​

​This class is designed for students who have prior aerial and/or straps experience. You’ll learn proper body alignment, conditioning drills, and essential techniques to develop the strength, stability, and control needed for this powerful apparatus. Focus will be on mastering basics and introducing creative movement pathways and safe progressions. Expect a mix of conditioning, skill-building, and guided practice time.

 

Prerequisites

  • Must be a minimum of a level 1 student in another aerial apparatus, or have completed a minimum of 10 aerial conditioning classes

  • Must be able to invert cleanly and unassisted at least 3 times in a row from the ground on any apparatus

  • Must be able to hold the top of a pull up position for 10 seconds, and do 1 unassisted push up or 5 assisted push ups.

AERIAL CONDITIONING-

OPEN LEVEL

Want to get stronger, just in general or to improve your aerial skills? This is a perfect class for all levels of aerial enthusiasts, from brand new beginners through professionals! In Aerial Conditioning, you’ll work on the basics of aerial fitness, practicing pull ups, inversions, all sorts of abdominal exercises, hanging from hands and knees, and so much more!

KIDS/YOUTH PROGRAMMING​​​

 

So you're child is ready to run away with the circus? Join us for our Kids/Youth aerial classes!  We are currently running the following kids/youth programming:

DROP IN, SINGLE SESSION CLASSES

Our youth classes are grouped by age (6–9, 10–12, and 13–15) to create a supportive environment for every stage of learning. Each week, students will have the opportunity to explore different aerial apparatuses while connecting with peers their own age. Drop-in classes are $45 per session, and you can find upcoming opportunities listed on our schedule tab.

6-WEEK NOV/DEC PROGRAM

This November and December, we’re offering a series of 6-week kids and youth sessions designed to help students steadily build and refine their aerial skills. The program will conclude with an optional showcase on Saturday, December 20th, where students can celebrate their progress by performing for friends and family.

While program purchases can be made directly through our website, registration must be completed by emailing us at leviatestudios.nyc@gmail.com, so we can ensure your child is placed in the appropriate session. Please note that Upper Level classes are by placement only—if your child has prior experience and you’d like them to join, reach out to us directly.
